Travel & Tourism - Case Studies
Travel and Tourism learners visit British Airways Flight Training Centre
Travel and Tourism learners visited the new state of the art Flight Training Centre at Heathrow Airport. Our learners took part in a variety of aviation safety and equipment procedures. Learners participated in a variety of practical activities during the day including how to complete the passenger safety demonstration, how they would evacuate passengers safely in an emergency situation and how to apply the principles of survival at sea.
There was also an opportunity to complete a slide descent which was a highlight of the day for most learners as well as the lecturers! They looked at how they would fight fires on board an aircraft and had the opportunity to use real life firefighting equipment such as smoke hoods and fire extinguishers. All learners then took part in a team exercise within a smoke filled cabin. Their goal was to work as a team to count the number of seats located within the smoke filled environment. It was interesting to see how this number varied from team to team and how different teams used different methods to communicate.
Travel and Tourism Case study
Elizabeth De Souza
During her time at school, Elizabeth De Souza wanted to become an airline pilot. When she finished school she had an interview for sixth form and one for college and she wasn’t sure what to do. A careers teacher advised her to study travel and tourism. Elizabeth’s Maths and English grades were not what she hoped for so she started at Henley College on a level 2 Travel and Tourism course and then progressed to the level 3 the following year.
